Love Reveals Its Depth Through Death

Tonight I shared a beautiful quote by Khalil Gibran and had a meme created for The Light After Grief inspired by its meaning:

Love knows not its own depth until the hour of separation.”

As I reflected on those words, I realized how true they have become in my own journey since my husband Phil’s transition. Many believe separation diminishes love, yet I have found the opposite can also happen. Without the distractions of our humanity and ego, love can deepen because it becomes purer. The heart begins listening differently, and presence is often felt in subtler ways — through memory, intuition, stillness, synchronicity, dreams, and music.

When the meme was finished, the glowing moon immediately reminded me of a line from a poem Phil once wrote to me:

The stars are in their places because we are together. God has opened a door because we have knocked. The moon lights our way because we walk toward it. This is the power of love.”

Seeing that moon in the image felt like Phil’s signature woven gently into it.
